Ethereum uses the Proof of Stake (PoS) algorithm. This algorithm secures the network based on the amount of digital currency you hold. Ethereum mining at PoS is based on the size and health of the holdings based on the currency. Bitcoin uses the Proof of Work (PoW) algorithm.
