Gm You have heard of Rollups. What about Restaked Rollups? Built on Eigenlayer by altlayer. An overview below.

Restaked Rollups are a set of three vertically integrated AVSs. Rollups builders can plug-in all three or one or two based on their requirement. The AVSs are- VITAL ( decentralized verification), MACH ( Fast Finality), SQUAD ( Decentralized Sequencing)

It is common to note that Restaked Rollups are only possible due to Eigenlayer. Stakers / operators stake tokens on Eigenlayer to serve AVSs. Now AVSs delegate work to operators and reward them for their service. But for malicious activity, a % of their stake is slashed.

Let's now go deep in each of the AVSs. 1. MACH Ethereum is the settlement layer for the entire crypto sphere. But we all know its slow tx confirmation ( 12 mins) is a massive blocker to scalability.

Although, sequencers via soft confirmations have tackled the problem. But there are a few issues with them too. >single point of control ( most are centralized) >doesn't inherit Ethereum's liveness >no economic backing

Altlayer came up with MACH to provide fast finality to Rollups backed by Ethereum security via Eigenlayer. > fast confs for L2 txs > cryptoeconomically backed > ZK & ORU both supported

2. SQUAD Most Rollups today use Centralized Sequencers. For well-known general-purpose rollups it is not a big issue because of their reputation. But new app-specific rollups can exploit users in various ways ( MEV, change tx order etc)

Another issue is related w/ RaaS providers. They make Rollup deployment a cakewalk w/plug-n-play tools. Here centralized sequencing & execution are the main revenue sources. So RaaS might lock their clients & exploit later . Moreover the process is closed, against web3 ethos.

SQUAD is a network of nodes leveraging Eigenlayer infra to form a decentralized sequencer network. Operators who want to run SQUAD nodes can either stake Eth LSTs or the Rollup token.

3. VITAL You know how ORUs secure the network right? At least one operator always verifies the correct state of the network. This may work well with matured ecosystems but not so much with new rollups due to lack of network-effect & financial incentivization.

VITAL consists of a network of Eigenlayer operators that verifies states of ORUs backed by cryptoeconomic security. During suspected malicious states, VITAL asks ZK proofs of faulty states from L2 proposers for self-verification & pass on the final verdict.

Powered by Eigenlayer, Altlayer's AVS trio looks like an efficient mechanism to scale Rollups. The tools provide Fast Finality, Decentralized Sequencing & Verification. Will keep a close eye on the adoption & future growth of the The Restaked Rollups ecosystem.
