Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, happy holidays, happy whatever and wherever you are today ๐ Iโm in an introspective place this week and havenโt been casting as much. This morning Iโve been reading my grandfathers war memoirs, which he wrote in his 80s based on all the letters he sent home to his love, my grandmother. Coincidentally I happened to read about what he did on Christmas Day 1944, 80 years ago. โI stood an eight hour watch as JOOD (Junior Officer of the Deck) on the quarterdeck from 0800 to 1600 today. I took over from another officerโs watch so that he might spend Christmas Day with his wifeโ Iโm only a third way through and itโs covered about a 15 month period so far since he got called from the draft to serve. So many mundane details of his time. It is a wonderful gift to have.

Oh my what a gift! To be able to peer into the past through your grandfather's writing is so precious. Thank you for sharing. I've done a significant amount of genealogical research on my family and biological family. I thoroughly enjoy coming across anything personally written during the time period. Even a person's memoirs makes it all come alive in a way that government records and newspaper clippings can.t

My most precious treasure is my grandfathers poem book that my grandma gave me before I left Venezuela ๐โจ
