The Middle Ages, until the 19th century, is the time when the problem arose. In Europe, garbage was thrown into the street directly from the windows. But for the environment, the issue was not so acute, since recyclable materials were mainly food waste. They decomposed within a year without polluting the soil or harming the atmosphere.
