Omw to subway this morning I saw a lady and her dog froze in the middle of the sidewalk, both shivering. The old lady had a horrifying yet hollow look in her eyes. I asked her if she was okay; she mumbled with tears “I’m going to the 30th to put my dog to sleep.” 

We were on 29th by then. She insisted she’d walk alone without help. I can’t imagine but that must be the longest walk of her life.
