My entire feed is full of conversations like these. Obviously plenty of people hate it too. If you really abhor giving users an upfront choice, and you're attempting to solve for the needs of specific user archetype, wouldn't it make more sense to have ways for users to self-segmemt by selecting what they're interested in (speculation, conversation, games, etc) rather than assuming you know what all the users want (you don't)?

I feel like both you and @ferran have good points here. PoH is good, and improves Farcaster. Account linking is also problematic for the reasons stated. What I'd like to see as a web3 user is an alternative to account linking for users like me who can provide zk proofs with tools like @holonym I should at least be able to use my holo for phone number verification, and preferably bypass verification altogether with a strong proof like Gov lD validation. My Gitcoin passport score is like 70. Why should I have to re-verify in Warpcast when the app can just check my onchain identity?

This is called misdirection. Classic bi-partisan tactics to keep us arguing about questions that don't have answers (likely unintentional here). The issue isn't whether memecoins are good or bad. That's a moral question that is completely subjective and highly variable based on context. Without a clear context, it's easy to argue either side with no possibility of resolution. The important question is whether the mechanisms with which memecoins are being presented to people is accurately representing what they are and if the focus on this kind of trading activity is actually promoting positive growth that is setting us up for long term sustainability vs creating another way to extract value from an uninformed retail market.

Dude you could have avoided all this drama by just offering an opt-in, rather than making the choice for everyone. Not only would you have saved *thousands* of people the (finite, valuable) time it takes to disable the notifications, but you'd have saved yourself the time spend dealing with all the negative feedback.

Personal take: Warpcast seems to be moving further away from mass adoption with each passing day. Maybe they will succeed in attracting a slice of CT (a target already motivated by economic incentives) but at the same time this is a GtM strategy that will likely exclude 99% of people. Hard to believe the whole Merkle team sees people this narrowly, so I think there are big chances that this strategy is intentional, at least for the short to mid term. They are sacrificing “normie” adoption to ensure growth numbera with “degens”.

Bruh don't take my post out of context. I dgaf if gamblers get rekt. I care that people I onboard into Warpcast for pro-social causes have to disable a bunch of speculative distraction bait. I care that now my workload is increased because I (a nonprofit volunteer) have to educate other nonprofit volunteers more because of this decision.

I mean if you want to jump into my comments, could you at least do something useful and criticize the lack of an opt-in (or at least a clear + easy opt out), rather than just railing at memecoins? The Warpcast team can't change memecoins. They *can* stop shoving this shitcoins garbage down our throats without our consent. What do you think would be more productive?

If you wanna make a blanket statement, maybe go with "memecoins are gambling". Calling something "fraud" is making an unfounded statement about the token issuer's intent, which could also be wrong / illegal in many places. In my case, I'm pissed that there's one more cringe, speculative piece distraction bait to disable when attempting to onboard folks onto Warpcast for pro-social purposes. Regular people hate this obscure memecoin shit. If you're just going to rant about your opinion on memecoins, not your actual attempts at driving Farcaster adoption, maybe try not to be slanderous at the same time?

*anti-rivalrous* Resources that gain value every time they are used. Unlike rivalrous goods (depleted) or non-rivalrous goods (unaffected), the utility of anti-rivalrous goods expands with network effects. Examples include knowledge, open source software, and social networks.

Nah. I think it's pretty clear that Farcaster has no intention of supporting conversations over gimmicks like this, despite widespread feedback in favor of the former. Also I've no I tentio to craft "good takes" when talking to a reactionary red-baiter who takes out his political frustrations on users of the app. My intention is to show that Dan's choices have built a culture of bad faith toward FC devs. Good takes would defeat that purpose.
