this is so spot on it's almost even burying the lede, "monetization fatigue" and "cognitive overload" sound like a "dumb consumers" problem when phrased so succinctly, but it's actually way more universal and fundamental
people who want to gamble do it twice a month when they get their paychecks... those same people play candycrush too and they have zero desire to financialize it.
even in that dumb mindless moment where they are playing candycrush, they are cognizant of how it's being used as a thoughtless escape, with no consequences; tokenizing candycrush would rightfully be seen as a scammy moneygrab, because you'd be taking a safe, fun, relaxing escape, and sullying it with vulgar gambling mechanics
it's not a dumb consumer problem, it's a dumb industry problem. solving for "monetization fatigue" and "cognitive overload" is dumb, even more than "people want to gamble", people just want to live their lives without their day-to-day happiness having financially impactful consequences on them long term. 1 reply
