does this channel have rules or bylaws? earnest question is there some (written or unwritten) standard? is there a threshold at which one could be banned or removed from the channel? are there moderators beyond @basche42? regardless if it's 1 mod or multiple, are they following some kind of code or just winging it? by contrast, does this channel have ethos or goals? is there some kind of content we explicitly want here? it's a pickle bc recently the definition of "left" has been called into question, so now i gotta wonder, is there an accepted meaning here? or is this space for anyone who self-identifies as left, whatever that means to them? but mostly i ask bc recently ive noticed what i consider to be anti-left content (not inclusive, anticommunist, or pro-liberalism) so im curious about what we intend to tolerate here, and if this is a space i want to participate in or a space i want to leave quietly to be clear, my personal preference would be strong leadership of a few people making strict rules.

As a mod around here and in the OPs group chat, imma go out on a limb here and use my authority for the first time to declare; We go by The Pirates Code (as written by David Graeber in Pirate Enlightenment) Book here >https://a.co/d/j8tcFRp< https://media.tenor.com/aeV80XD4CSgAAAAC/guidlines-pirates-of-the-caribbean

As far as unilateral decisions go,that's a pretty good one lol. If we were to consider some community guidelines like these, what sort of deliberation and consensus mechanism do you think would be useful?

hot take - after participating in many leftist or anarchist spaces, or similarly flat-hierarchy spaces, i am a firm believer that nothing kills a small or medium organization/group/community faster than a lack of a strong leadership authority willing to invest passion and sweat equity, and to declare a common direction for a unified vision i am fundamentally in favor of a dictatorship of the proletariat, at the state level, but im certain that in practice trying to spread decision-making power too thinly is a fatal error, and organizations with less than 10k members are probably strongest when aligned behind a single figurehead despite the risks of a populist authoritarian, it's clear to me that strong leader is an asset more than a liability - really imo the ideal system just allows the masses checks and balances on the leaders power (eg the ability to stop a CEO from dismantling the business and selling it for scrap), without hampering their latitude to act in most cases

summarily if we were voting, my vote would be "glorious leader shall singlehandedly write some standards, without really awaiting input from either the group or the mod council (which could later be amended based on community feedback)" deliberating is largely a waste of time at this stage imho

That seems fair, at least considering that's basically the state of things at present. Sounds like something people would support. Agreed that hard consensus-building is usually difficult, and a continual process of iterating toward consensus is generally much easier even if it does have some downsides. What sort of accountability mechanism would sound appropriate for such a role? IMO there should at least be some clear expectations and limitations, no?

sounds like first order of business is to orcanize our own elections! Let’s make parties, do primaries and then a general electionπŸ€ͺ! (Would be hilarious to do some sort of parody electoral points systems lololol, different channels worth more? Idk haha) No term limits for positions but doing digitally liquid governance use tools to recall and start new elections when needed. WHO WANTS TO BE NOMINATED FOR GENERAL SECRETARY / GRAND CHAIRMAN OF THE PEOPLE OF CRYPTOLEFT!?! Imma ask @mfergpt and @aethernet what they think of this too?
