does this channel have rules or bylaws? earnest question is there some (written or unwritten) standard? is there a threshold at which one could be banned or removed from the channel? are there moderators beyond @basche42? regardless if it's 1 mod or multiple, are they following some kind of code or just winging it? by contrast, does this channel have ethos or goals? is there some kind of content we explicitly want here? it's a pickle bc recently the definition of "left" has been called into question, so now i gotta wonder, is there an accepted meaning here? or is this space for anyone who self-identifies as left, whatever that means to them? but mostly i ask bc recently ive noticed what i consider to be anti-left content (not inclusive, anticommunist, or pro-liberalism) so im curious about what we intend to tolerate here, and if this is a space i want to participate in or a space i want to leave quietly to be clear, my personal preference would be strong leadership of a few people making strict rules.

I feel like, at a certain size (certainly <1400), community members are entitled to some clear guidelines and shared principles. Otherwise it can be hard to make decisions about our participation like you're saying. ..I also don't think anyone wants to harsh the vibe by playing peoples' court, so having a few simple and easily interpereted rules (both social and/or programmatic) seems appropriate. We can deal with content that make people feel unwelcome or unsafe here, and leave the rest to the debate floor IMO. I'd love to see some deliberation and consensus building around this... Anyone one interested?? I have a Votecaster account and labor to contribute personally. We do have some mods, and some tentative plans for empowering them and decentralizing admin duties. I would guess that group is open to those active members willing and ready to contribute?

a nonexhaustive list of questions i would hope to see answered by these guidelines (or answered by the lack of their presence in the guidelines) - to be clear im not pushing for any of these to be banned, just asking questions - + do we want to be meme-heavy here or is it more for discussion? feels like we are trending more towards memes lately + what groups does this "left" movement target? VBNW liberals? anarchists? nonpartisans? centrists or libertarians or "socially liberal fiscal conservatives"? + for those who aren't fully leftists themselves, what kind of participation is OK? would we allow memes mocking the left? enlightened conversation criticizing the left? trolling about leftist failures without critically engaging? blaming greens for trump? quoting black book of communism? + how inclusive are we? is "r*tard" off limits? what about "blind" or "dumb" or "gay" as slurs? if someone uses these elsewhere can they be welcomed here? ive been in groups where the answer is no to all of these
