the things that working families I know care about are: - cost of housing, either rent or mortgage - wages - cost of stuff like gas, groceries - cost of healthcare - cost of daycare, education most of the middle class families I grew up with had one or two parents working and probably averaged sub 100k / year these are not coastal elites lol, and most have some form of retirement account impacted by the market example: my mother earned the primary income in my family of four for my entire life, her income averaged between 50k-80k from the time I was born until today (still working). she has a retirement account but yes, its true that the working poor in america basically own nothing, live on credit. their retirement plan is social security and medicaid / medicare
