Calling BS on that one. I'm /europoooooor and never heard of this. Afaik, there is no regulation saying you can't have an AC (maybe the placement is in the hand of the city reg but that's it).

Also, wtf? the average temp in July in Geneva is 20 C (67 F or 21 school buses for my friends from the states). If you have an AC on at 20 celsius, you're a moron.

My point was, it's not a country issue, but a city issue (cities usually can have these kind of regulations in order for the houses not to look hideous with various types of AC installed in various visible places). E.g. for new houses, can they be installed on the roof or the part of the house not visible from the street?

geneva needs you to provide a reason (e.g. a doctors note) to attach fixed aircon to a residence, for other cantons you usually need to apply for some permit to install it. mobile aircon is fine. maybe shops in switzerland check permits before purchases and that’s where the idea that you can’t buy it comes from..?
