"jeet" is short for the ethnic slur "Pajeet" which became famous on 4chan around 2014 and was since co-opted widely in crypto circles

it is not an innocent or meaningless term and it's heartbreaking to see so many people treat it like it is. ignorance is no longer an excuse.

Phew, thank you, I was not being an asshole, just illiterate. 

Also, now I'm questioning my knowledge of English language. I pronounced it as "yeet" but kept writing is with a "J". 

In my defense, in my language, J is pronounced the way Y is pronounced in English (when it is the first letter in the word).
