It also tends to breed creativity because you have to find ways to solve problems - solving constrained problems that are just challenging enough that it challenges your skills, but not easy - these are the best problems to bring out your best solutions, best expressions of self etc

I feel like there’s ~ two parts to being creative:

1) coming up with all the ideas 
2) focus in & select the idea

It’s like filming a film, the first part is shooting the actors and getting footage. The second part is all editing

The first part is finding out what you can be, the second part decides what you are

Rick Rubin describes similar thinking in his book The Creative Art (from chapter Experimentation to Completion). I think you would enjoy it very much!
