Revisiting this post. I now believe this was an overestimate, now that we are demand-limited with clear data for over a year instead of supply-limited like we had been for the first ~15, I have a better understanding of strict global consensus, and fintech continues to progress rapidly, particularly in Asia and Africa.

I still believe demand will grow over time, but the endgame "cliff" for "valuable transactions that need full Ethereum security" will be much lower than I had thought in 2022.

It is important to consider the evidence instead of blind hopium and entitlement as increasing blob supply callously has clear tradeoffs socially, technically and economically that can compromise Ethereum's core values for zero gain.

Needless to say, as usual, I was accused of being too pessimistic in 2022 when in reality even I was being too optimistic. Given prior history, it's likely I'm still too optimistic!

I read Vitalik's "Proof of Stake" but can't recommend it. He selected which essays to publish, but they are not directed to a crypto-native reader. For those just discovering crypto, the book can be too advanced, so I'm not sure who the book is intended for.

Decentralizing crypto infra is essential; apps not so much due to the real-world exposure they need (study stablecoins).

It's amazing how proof of work was a proof of concept for blockchains and enabled proof of stake.

Otherwise, no one would believe some coins are worth anything, and securing a network with them wouldn't be possible.

PoW couldn't be circumvented.

ZK is math, not magic. Y'all know what's more magical? Law. You say an innocent "yes" and suddenly your TVL is split between you and your partner. For other examples please live life.

With fraud proofs in optimistic rollups, your trust assumption is 1 of N honest validators. In zk rollups, you hope that a circuit is error-free. These are complex and exploitable systems.

IMO, we'll have a huge rollup fuck up within 2 years. No idea which type, but with fraud proofs I may prefer the security of OR.

One of the best Opepen sets so far. Stoked to get one.

I think that this or next year we'll have a big fuckup in the rollup space (either a rug or a hack). 

All this TVL is too often hanging on a thin thread of security guaranteed by a multisig only, and people keep bridging like crazy (I'm guilty of that too).

Farcaster is cleaner and more focused vs Lens which seems to be all over the place. Great job team.
