The original rollup vision was to outsource execution to L2s, but at the cost of giving up on L1 scaling. This was a risky bet, as there’s no guarantee L2s will remain aligned with Ethereum indefinitely. Rollup teams are now running businesses, and they won't care to switch at convienence.
