Monteriggioni is one of the best preserved medieval walled towns in the Tuscany region of Italy. It was originally built as a fortified castle in the early 13th century to protect the Sienese from their traditional enemies, the Florentines. The town is not only of architectural value but also has deep cultural significance, regularly hosting many important festivals and events of the region. In particular, Monteriggioni is mentioned in Dante Alighieri's famous work, The Divine Comedy.
