Skateboarding originated in the 1950s but only now is becoming an Olympic sport.

It was fun to watch at the Olympics - question though - why is it divided into separate men and women competition? I totally understand the rationale in tennis, combat sports or running, not so sure about skateboarding which seems to be all about agility and balance, not pure muscle power?
