I always had a bias about the safety of low-cost airlines, but after seeing Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong travel with 【Scoot Airline】recently, I feel reassured.

Scoot is part of Singapore Airlines — so no airworthiness or safety concern there. Generally speaking, a far better predictor of safety than the low-cost carrier (LCC) vs. full-service carrier (FSC) distinction is whether the airline is IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registered or not. This is not exactly the same as being an IATA member — all IATA members are IOSA registered, but not all IOSA registered airlines are IATA members. IOSA registration means the airline subjects itself to IATA safety audits, which is usually a precursor to becoming an IATA member later. You can browse the list of IOSA registered airlines here: https://ic.iata.org/registry/iosa
