Feel like so many have tried this recently though. Didn’t dig deep but aren’t there endless projects like this and they all end failing because they can’t make money?

I don’t think it’ll make money aha. I think the company will fail but we’ll all get some amazing OSS stuff

Not sure we do get amazing stuff if an OSS project goes unmaintained though :( But I guess the core underlying stack is fairly stable and so doesn’t depend on the company to succeed. But agree with you. I hope they figure something out.

OSS goes unmaintained for many reasons I don’t think “running out of VC money” is the biggest one tbh. Often burnout or lack of resources (time, energy) is the bigger one, so I am not suuuper concerned. Also by definition is OSS so people can fork if it goes stale! Has happened before and likely would happen with critical infrastructure

Yes but many open source projects have also died. Project really needs to hit critical mass to survive the parent company / lead contributors going bankrupt. And money is a resource. Time/energy = money.
