less likely counterpoint: this is the type of thing you ship if you’re about to drop a significant model upgrade and want to absolutely maximize distribution especially in less connected parts of the world

that’s the only optimistic take i have on this

Nah if they had a model they’d drop  it. What’s the downside? Why hold it? Anthropic has had a better model for months. My read:

1. Their top engineers have moved to other companies
2. The scaling is struggling (running out of data and synthetic isn’t working)

This is bc they have lots of PMs who are smart and want promotions but can’t ship better models so they ship rubbish.
