Don’t think the Russian revisionist pomp about victory over the Nazis in WW2 is fooling anyone, considering they started it in an alliance with the them to begin with - then illegally annexed and occupied most of Eastern Europe for decades afterwards.

This chart really encapsulates the power of American soft power — i.e., how Hollywood had managed to equate “heroic U.S. D-day landing and liberating France” with “crushing Germany on its own soil” in the minds of later generations (Far from me to take any credit away from the US and Allied efforts on D-day and after; merely pointing out the likely source of that cognitive shift about the importance of the Eastern front)
