Despite what Trump thinks according to his recent speech, tariffs were not why the United States became so wealthy and powerful in the times between the Civil War in the 1800s and the introduction of the income tax in 1913. Yes, the government raised money from tariffs during this era but we also had: *sound money with no central bank *very few regulations *a tiny federal government *no income tax It was the combination of these and other factors that led to our prosperity during that era not the tariffs. We now have none of those things, so all this is going to do is steal even more money from Americans. https://x.com/RandPaul/status/1908177839477674364

Yes, I would say compared to the absolutely huge leviathan of a Federal government that exists today, the Fed gov of the reconstruction era can very much be considered small by today's standards even if it would of still been considered too big by many of the founders of the United States and myself.
