i used to design my apps with default dark mode for a long time

truth was that it was just me trying to do design on an easy mode

you can just throw anything on black canvas, and mostly it will look nice - not taking away from some of the brilliant dark sites

but this is because black takes away your responsibility to fill the “emptiness” of the canvas

recently, i have moved away from black and started to fully play with those spaces on white canvas — it’s terribly more difficult to make good light mode designs

i find that to be exactly the opposite. you have less leeway with dark mode when it comes to layering, especially for text.

i always get away with that by starting with a little faded black

oh and the way you have mastered black on your site, that one’s of my fav black implementations 🤌
