anybody know of 3d print farms in nyc? trying to print 1000+ units of a really small item, few grams of filament or people who have 3d printers and open to running it on repeat for a little while (can pay a little!) or letting me borrow it 😅

it used to be super easy to find local printers and hook up jobs like this with p2p marketplaces, i was getting same-day prints delivered by motorbike in Bangkok in 2018 now i think all the p2p markets are gone, idgi, like they got swooped up or something? or like the model didn't work?

i remember using shapeways to print on someone else's printer back in 2015 but they completely locked that shit down and went full b2b saas 🤮

i have a (conspiracy) theory that actually p2p printing marketplaces aren't yet very viable, bc the vendor quality varies wildly and the risks/costs of complex prints and failures aren't accounted in the pricing like it doesn't make sense that nobody else would have filled the shapeways void if the model were viable the process of removing supports and preparing the print can be significant, and depends a lot on operator skill, and even skilled operators can fail a print and lose a ton of plastic, so my headcannon/hunch is that printing needs to get 10x simpler before we see this widespread again
