my parents don't really buy much of anything at all and I've been trying to get them to mentally accept that they don't need to be *as* concerned about finances anymore. the only thing that has worked so far: took my dad shopping, he saw a flat water bottle that fits into your back pocket. he loved it, guy is constantly going for lindy walks with a water bottle. He asked how much it was, and I said dude who cares lets get it. now every day almost he hits me up to talk about how cool his water bottle is. its the small wins

My mom and her partner are coming to visit in April, she sent a few hotels nearby and I responded with a nicer one "Honey thats too expensive!" this is a beautiful story. my parents gave me and my sibling everything we needed, they sacrificed a lot to send us to good schools now they are older and we are both in good places in our careers and we can support them in a way that is new - and not fully internalized yet. feels really good, man
