an early morning hunt to try and identify the farcaster user who minted all of these base subdomains & listed them for outrageous prices has led me down and extremely interesting Base rabbithole highlights include: - account abstraction - mass faking active wallets to receive meme token airdrops - collecting all those airdrops, selling them - a user named "gamblingjesus.eth" - inactive farcaster accounts (hi @degenxbt) we really exist in such an adversarial environment

may only make sense to mint any names when you can prove you have any relation/history to the name or a mechanism to reclaim it from someone clearly manipulating

I mean this always happens, it’s part of why I didn’t mint. It’s a cool project just doesn’t really get me excited after so many cycles of domain squatting. I have a good ens :)

i got lucky with wake dot eth. ultra specific, vanity domain names are nice to have... i guess... but they're rarely worth any trouble. support is always mixed, perks are pretty tepid, and it's trivially easy to sweep through and claim every noteworthy word. just, meh. it's a usually fundraising maneuver and always a boring one.
