What I consider a success. I decided one day that I wanted to do an Ironman. I was already really fit and had seen a couple of them on TV, I'd also had some friends that had completed them. I signed up for Ironman New Zealand, paid the entry fee, and then started to plan out my training.
For those that don't know, an Ironman is a Triathlon consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and a marathon.
I bought a training plan online, bought a bike, and pretty much learned how to swim. I was always water friendly ie surfing, swimming, but really didn't know technique that would carry me the 2.4 miles for the swim portion of the race. I got a swim coach and swam in the pool every day. It turns out that not wanting to drown is an excellent motivator. I became excellent at swimming.
I bought a bike, did the rides that we're planned and also ran. Running was my strength, and I wasn't worried about it. I got so much faster. 18 replies
