This is pretty common and sad.  Sometimes people feel inferior when they think someone is smarter than they are.  Sometimes the intelligent person comes off as cocky, or just seen that way, because of jargon and larger words being used.

It can be one or both people in the conversation that are the problem, but it would be nice if this never happened 😊
