"I drink multiple cups of coffee per day because it helps me stay focused". No, daily use of caffeine doesn't make you focused compared to baseline. You're just addicted to and have a dependency on it. Caffeine is the most overrated and misunderstood molecule in the world.

Aren’t you a proponent of psychedelics?

Seems strange to talk down on caffeine, one of the most well-understood drugs in history while advocating for a class of drugs that actually has the capacity to nuke a person’s brain, and that doesn’t have 1/100th of the historical use data.

This is a moot point. Whatever things I said about other molecules bear no relevance here. "most well-understood" - exactly, we know that it's addictive, dependency-forming, and it impairs sleep in slow CYP1A2 metabolizers. P.S. caffeine can also "nuke" you. The LD50 is 10g.

Another P.S. Bar for a few conditions such as schizophrenia, psychedelics are incredibly safe. See David Nutt's work on estimating drug harms. https://www.ias.org.uk/uploads/pdf/News%20stories/dnutt-lancet-011110.pdf

We have an entire historical record of people using coffee safely. I suspect you can find maybe a person or two who died due to caffeine but the LD50 is stupid high compared to the normal dose. The research on the side of psychedelics is so weak, and the upside is limited to treatment of problems like depression.
