With the tariffs there has been a lot of halting of agricultural exports. I hope it results in an increase in supply of food in the US & a concomitant price decrease. Will help with deflation.

Hum, I guess I’ll just need to substitute coffee, avocados, cinnamon. and tomatoes with soybeans. Some things we just can’t grow in the US. The rest it will take a growing season or years in the case of avocado trees to adjust. Tariff policies are changing daily. Businesses including farms are holding back until things are stable enough to plan. Also add that migrant labor are the majority of folks who pick crops like lettuce and oranges. Florida’s solution is to child labor laws to make up for this. I don’t see how prices won’t go up.

I’m not talking about all agriculture. But the way we do CPI (which is crazy) reductions in beef & pork pricing may offset inflation from avocados or coffee for example. What we do grow in the US will crater in price of they cannot be sold overseas before expiry. Unless of course they destroy the excess food to save foo pricing.
