Farcaster should support some form of downvoting so new clients can implement interfaces around content communities want to de-prioritize in feeds.

This is great. Love this and codeslaw. Is there a list of all of the different products Electric is working on somewhere?

I am excited about Farcaster frames and everything @dwr.eth and @v have built. I’ve wanted programmable decentralized social media forever. And I have several posts I want to put up and apps I want to put out. But…I’m just pinned down for a while finishing the 2nd edition of The Network State. So, more soon!

Introducing YONK: Venmo, but worse Yonks are payments unlocked by voice messages. To claim a yonk, listen at max volume (no headphones!). The longer you wait, the less $$ you get 😉 It's fully onchain & on the App Store. 🧵👇

Anyone have the infamous @balaji talk on nouns/verbs in crypto? I heard there was a talk at Coinbase about this and would love for all of us to discuss many years later.

One thesis is that we are entering the age of "network defect" — where the disalignment you get from squabbling tribes outweighs the advantage of having them all on one platform. If so, we may need to make single-tribe networks more *useful* for doing things. Example: a designer guild network integrated with Figma

Web3 is working. Some are just web2 apps, but now with wallets as logins and all that enables. Warpcast is web3 Twitter. Sending dot me is web3 WhatsApp. Others are new kinds of apps that have a web2-like interface but are enabled by web3. Tiplink is like web3 Bitly + NFTs. Driphaus is like web3 Mailchimp + NFTs.

This makes a lot of sense and I think would address a lot of the incentive misalignment currently in the crypto community that is causing permabear behavior.

The combination of (a) paying a little bit of money (eg $44/month) and (b) spending a little bit of time (eg dev setup) to get (c) sweat NFTs for bootstrapping a network is kind of like being a micro-investor or micro-employee, but without any promise of future return whatsoever. You get NFT tchotkes. That’s it…

🔲 Surprising Thing #1: Only ~50% the people I talked w were there primarily bc of crypto! Other big categories: Biotech; Digital Nomadism; Space Exploration. (Pictured here is Jutta and her friend who both came with their 1 y/o sons. They came to TNS to find the community where they will raise their kids!) 4/n

The first network states don’t need to appeal to the mainstream. We don’t need even close to 50% support. If a network state can recruit even 0.01% of the world, that’s 800k people. And would already be the 160th largest country in the world, bigger than ~20% of UN recognized countries. So, be bold.

Essentially my view is: SF is important but not essential. Yes, it’s possible to reclaim the city via the gray tribe strategy. But it’s also very possible for it to get swallowed by much more powerful blue political forces that oppose AI’s disruption — like the anti-AI executive order on steroids.
