Many have worked hard and sacrificed so much for decades (arguably centuries) to bring it to where it is today.

I wish the country a bright, secure, sustainable and free and independent future.

Definitely centuries, appreciate very much how you've framed this post. The country and it's people are far more than the genocide being enacted upon them. 

It's their War of Independence, the way this basic idea core to the American experience is so mutilated by some, greatly misunderstood by many is regrettable.
