Today cheesecakes are one of the most popular dishes, but earlier their ancestor, MANDRIKI, was prepared in Ukraine. These are simple flatbreads made from cottage cheese, flour and eggs, baked in the oven or fried in a frying pan. The difference between mandriks is that they were often cooked with honey and poppy seeds, which made them especially aromatic. According to legend, the Zaporozhye Cossacks took them with them on campaigns because they did not go stale for a long time.
