Since watching Dune 2 movie I’ve been mulling over what it means to take a story that helped launch the environmental activist movement and virtually remove any indication of the ecological narrative from the films.

The first movie really cut short the Liet Kynes arc, and just treated the terraforming project as a little sideshow. This not only sidelines a crucial part of the books, but also removes a big part of the Fremen story - that they were all on a multi-generational radical guerilla eco-rehab project.
