American Dream or American Scheme? 
Chasing the dream—just make sure you can outrun the debt.

The house, a quintessential symbol of success and stability represents the ultimate milestone in achieving the “American Dream”. I wanted to contrast this with the bold advertising slogan “we buy cash for homes” to highlight the precariousness of that dream for many. The promise of “quick cash” points to the exploitive practices that prey on the vulnerable in times of financial distress. These companies thrive in moments of vulnerability. The artwork is intended to critique these practices, questioning how capitalism commodifies not only property but human despair. 

The title contrasts the words “dream and scheme”, underscoring the tension between aspiration and reality. The idyllic house contrasted with the stark, predatory signage highlights the uneasy truth; the “American Dream” while still alluring, is not equally accessible to all and, for some, it may be a trap rather than a triumph.
