of course, can't ban bitcoin, only legislatively ban (ban on/off-ramps, ban network participation/mining, ban country-specific IP addresses from controlling keys to wallets that hold bitcoin, etc). Completely authoritarian moves into private money, but possible.

True. You could control fiat inflow/outflow of exchanges that effectively allow users to buy crypto. Problem is doing that on a global scale. There will always be that one country in the middle of the ocean that will open business for crypto exchanges.
