The Farcaster protocol will also use signed payloads similar to how JWTs work... https://github.com/farcasterxyz/protocol/blob/main/README.md#81-signed-messages

What is getting stored in a database? Do all login strategies have to store something in a db? 

I don’t really even have a good grasp of auth overall
