In eastern Europe people who don’t remember communism think it was worse than it was. Older people usually have more nuanced view. Communism in Eastern Europe was totalitarian just for short period, most of the time it was not. opposition existed, underground books and papers were published. People read much more independent books and magazines than they read today. Of course in some countries it was worse. perhaps in East Germany they really went mor totalitarian. But Poland or Czech Republic it was really not half as bad as they portray it

I love this book and love the feeling of freedom coming from this book. You read it and you almost dream to be poor and homeless and wander around the country on freight trains. It’s amazing that a work of fiction can make rough and hard life look so simple and zen-like.

Don’t you think it’s trivial now? It’s like Mona Lisa, everyone knows the idea without reading. If book doesn’t teach you something fresh it’s not worth reading. Also the whole concept of totalitarianism as defined by political science is problematic and political in itself.

It is becoming increasingly obvious now that AI won’t work without human supervision. ChatGPT is great and I use it a lot but it always need human review. It is not responsible to use LLM generated content in any business without human in the loop.

I like polymarket but wonder is it that much different from plain unregulated gambling? Just like uber is mostly unregulated taxi service, polymarket is just gambling with no regulation. Which makes me wonder how long governments will tolerate this lack of regulation

Some polymarket bets look as safe as US bonds.

Lego flowers are such an interesting product. I wonder who actually buys them? Do people keep these flowers on the table like usual ones? It could be popular if my store places them upfront just by the entrance.

When the crypto market value rises, more developers jump in. It's fun to see how closely market value correlates with newcomers. At the same time, the number of experienced devs working in the crypto space consistently grows over time. https://www.developerreport.com/developer-report?s=established-devs-have-grown-52

The amount of sponsored spam and scams on Facebook and X is spectacular. I'm not talking about ads; you can understand ads, but how they tolerate so many paid blatant scams is beyond me. Farcaster feels so safe and clean in comparison.

What were your predictions? I’m not sure if my prediction will be true but I could bet he will decide to run for president somewhere around 2028 or 2032. He certainly has political ambitions.

Thailand 🇹🇭 is experimenting with distributing money to low-income households through digital wallets. People below certain income thresholds will get $280 credited to their digital wallet. Digital funds can't be exchanged for cash. It can only be spent on a limited number of items in shops close to the residence. https://www.ft.com/content/9194ca11-7788-4a1d-a6cc-cffea18d0c9d

On the left there used to be a factory and the river used to be pink at times in 1980ties because lots of factories dumped their waste in it. Now it’s clean bur I don’t see too many fish in it

Sushi restaurant in post industrial Central-Eastern European landscape in my city has this weird vibe. I tried to capture it but it’s hard. I need to try again with different angle light and frame.

It’s a pretty place too, and not too high (around 900 m above see level) so walk is relaxing not really hard.

Unfortunately this will only lead to more violence because it will trigger infighting over leadership in the cartel. The cartels are decentralised so removing one leader will not disturb their operations at all. It’s just a signal from US to leaders of cartel that they can’t be safe.
