I think the financialization of social media will have profound political consequences in ways that are very unpredictable. Few thought Facebook would influence geo politics when it was being used at Havard to rate people's faces.

New political candidate comes out of nowhere, pumps a meme coin to raise funds and generate publicity. Makes a ton of money and gains power. Supporters also make money from the pump and use the funds to further a specific political agenda.

what would you call tokenizing a meme, thereby allowing people to literally buy and sell a cultural symbol if not, at its essence, "financializing social media" ? meme tokens like Boden or MAGA serve as essentially tokenized proxies for prediction markets
