Steam/leil is the main appeal of a traditional sauna, and that's exactly what you can't get in an infrared sauna. In some places where sauna isn't a thing, they even ban the use of water to make steam in trad. sauna, which is complete nonsense as that's the main benefit.

Also remember reading something about negative ions being created when steaming water on hot rocks. I imagine you won't get that in an infrared sauna as the heating mechanism is very different.
