Daegu is the fourth largest city in South Korea (after Seoul, Busan and Incheon). Officially called Daegu Metropolitan City, it was the capital of Gyeongsang-Pukdo Province until 2016. The territory of Daegu increased 1.7 times with the annexation of Kunwi to Daegu on July 1, 2023. Among metropolitan areas, Daegu has become the largest city.
