Why does the crypto industry insist on sinking copious amounts of money into hackathons that lead to little to no retention for builders?

I'm all for experimentation, but we need more long-term-oriented builder programs that actually take builders from 0 to 1.

Builders fork the one they like, and build cool stuff on top either to collab with the original creator or go in new direction - its open source!

Mint a builder NFT which is what signals to the swarm that you are going for it. Others can then stake $MON on your effort/iteration, essentially vouching for what you are leaning into building/doing. 

For stakers, early access to the project & future tokenisation the longer they stake. For builders, more stakers = early users/advocates + the agents are more likely to hype your effort/angle (specially when they go live on platforms like twitter & farcaster).
