the thing about 2008 youtube was that nobody was trying to be a creator™️ people were just making stuff because it was fun, and nobody knew what worked because nothing has solidified yet i see so much of that energy on @base, and i love it

The Internet used to be fun. Then ads took over, and everything turned into a "how much attention can you grab to make money?" machine. That killed it. I joined Twitter in 2007. I can’t even put into words how much fun I had until 2015. Then ads took over, and killed it. Now let’s look at the onchain Internet. Take Zora. I used to use it. Then it became a token launcher. No reason to use it anymore. At Bario Entertainment System, we used Drakula to share video content every now and then. Then what happened? It turned into a token launcher too, and now they’re busy promoting their new app. Drakula is probably gone. They even removed Drakula app's URL from its Twitter profile. To be honest, we’re nowhere near the "new Internet" yet. Algorithmic feeds packed with ads are still running the game.

agree that there’s a TON of work to do to make creators actually care about (and feel safe using) platforms
