incentive alignment: "Ownership of the network of restaurants will primarily go to the restaurants themselves as the company progressively decentralizes. 'Overall, the restaurant industry should own roughly half of the network" great read

> it’s also an app that wouldn’t be able to do the things it wants to do for restaurants and diners without crypto. why is this true? i like blackbird but it feels like they could do everything they're doing right now without crypto

Though not related, but blackbird reminds me of the song blackbirds by Linkin Park ❤️

Blackbird is cool, but your article is self-contradictory. You say it couldn't be built offchain, but also, everything currently is offchain! The membership NFTs are onchain but you admit they don't need to be, and $FLY is entries in a database. I think the bigger story is that the promise of consumer crypto is still in the distance. There's a few apps that have abstracted away crypto and have found users (my company included), but they could all be built without crypto, and the promise is that eventually there will be wider adoption, network effects, interoperability, etc. I still believe in that promise, but today it's not there. Let's hope it's not like one of your other favorite subjects, nuclear fusion, which is perpetually just a decade away :)
