XMTP seems to be cooking. Farcaster has an FIP about bringing Direct Casts and Group Casts to the protocol. 

I would love to see a conversation between the two teams and understand where they differ and where they converge. After all this time, I would have expected that this conversation/debate would have already taken place.

I've watched this play out for almost two years with hopes of seeing an open messaging protocol with an attached social identity emerge (like SMTP is for email). We wanted to build on it, and push it into being a telco replacement for SMS.

As much as it kills me to say this, I just don't see it happening on Farcaster

meanwhile there's an FIP to add some weird centralized solution to the protocol
