Fascinating how the Aetherium crystals from Studio Ghibli’s “Castle in the Sky” accidentally and indirectly inspired the namesake and visual identity for Ethereum (unbeknownst to @vitalik.eth for seven years). I knew I wasn’t the only one seeing the resemblance. The “digital castle” metaphor fits Ethereum aptly (albeit retroactive).

iirc his example was about the launch of Burning Crusade and the changes to Warlocks with the expansion. The Ethereum faction was introduced in that expansion, so I could imagine he saw it while leveling and got inspired for the name 😉

Wait, really? The blockchain had to have predated the WoW faction if he created it in response to his character’s spell getting nerfed…
