I understand that passkeys are useful to onboard users to web3 in a fast and simple way but I can't wrap my head around them 100%. If they are stored on iCloud or Google - that doesn't sound like self-custody to me. I find them useful to have a fun and fast onchain experience - to play around - but I wouldn't have funds or create an identity or reputation with that wallet at all.

Do we just want to grow the user base and numbers onchain quickly or do we wanna onboard people with the principles of self-custody? I guess there will be a spectrum as self-custody is a lot to take in, and might not be suitable for everyone, but I'll always go for the latter. Learning to take responsibility and having total ownership of my digital assets is the key calling for me. Also, do passkeys work on all phones? What are the minimum requirements to have one? Not everyone has iPhones or the latest Android devices. It took me years to reach a level where I could actually afford my first iPhone, and I did so thanks to the working possibilities in web3. We have to make sure no one gets left out. I've been thinking a lot about this lately and would love to know your thoughts.
