The Shift to Modular Blockchains: What it Means for Builders on Base

One challenge modular blockchains address is the difficulty of scaling without sacrificing decentralization. Base Network, as a Layer 2 solution, is already a step ahead by leveraging Optimistic Rollups. However, integrating modular components, such as a specialized data availability layer, could boost performance further. This approach could also encourage new developers to migrate to Base, given the reduced overhead in infrastructure setup. Interestingly, modular blockchains allow projects to “choose their stack,” enabling bespoke solutions for unique challenges. Base could benefit from experimenting with such flexible architectures, especially as DeFi and NFT markets grow more complex. The shift is no longer theoretical; it’s a growing movement among top Web3 projects.
