Alt-DA Mode protects chains from increased costs in the event that 4844 blobspace becomes congested in the future while aiming to minimize tradeoffs to security and decentralization. 

This release of Alt-DA Mode gives chain operators the freedom to choose whichever DA layer they believe has the best tradeoffs of security, decentralization, and cost.

Eigen DA is a scalable data availability service built on the EigenLayer restaking protocol.

@redstone was the first chain to leverage the initial release of Alt-DA Mode with DA Challenges, a Plasma-inspired feature that allows OP Stack Chains to submit transaction batches to a centralized DA layer while allowing those batches to be challenged onchain.
