On June 25th 1950, the Northern Korean People's Army invaded South Korea, marking the start of the Korean War. It sprung from reunification efforts by the north with support from China. The 38th parallel divide was established after the United States defeated Japan during World War II. Tensions built following the occupation of Korea by first Japan and then the United States. Kim Il-sung in coordination with Stalin of the Soviet Union led the invasion.
