it's 1998 and I'm absolutely demolishing all comers at Tetrinet, Metallica's black album blasting in my headphones. I'm top 3 on the global leaderboard and I haven't really leaned in yet. My girlfriend, whose dorm room I am living in, is asleep. I don't know it but life will never be this good again.

Email clients should differentiate between "things we automatically detected as spam" and "things you specifically flagged to be spam". There are plenty of times when I want to look through the former. I never want to look through the latter, and having it all mixed together makes it harder to find what I came for.

The gift-giving virtue—something granted before being deserved. Life is such a gift and Democracy is another. Actual "mob rule" is a leap of faith our species will have to make if we're ever going to make it out of adolescence. The ignorant masses, unfit to rule, are handed the power anyway. And so they grow into it.
